A few words about photos.
Watson, a great photo of a black cat.
Greeley, a perfect photo, at his level, very clear with lots of natural light, and he's smiling!
Sadly Fraidy Cat died. With the help of other photos I was able to capture her coloration, and this picture made one of my favorite portraits.
This cute guy was a little blurry, but we worked it out with extra photos.

I work together with clients to come up with a great portrait based on photos and their descriptions of their pet's personality.  Large resolution photos are the best.  The clearer the details the better the resulting portrait.  Pictures taken outside in daylight, or indoors near natural light help me see the colors that are part of your pet's coat. Photos taken on the pets level are the best.  I've noticed dogs look like they are smiling, like Greeley above, when they are panting or have their mouth open.  Animals with black fur, like Watson, need as much natural light as possible to highlight their features.  You don't need a fancy camera, photos taken from a phone can be fantastic, many of them are great because they were taken at candid moments when everyone involved is relaxed.  Most of the photos above were taken by people using their phones, just remember to send the photo at the largest size possible when you email it to me.

You may already have some great photos, so just email or send them to me.  If you have a photo you love of an animal that can no longer be photographed, and you are concerned with its quality, send it in as large a format as possible and we'll see what we can do.  I can send you my address if you need to use the post office to send CDs or hard copies of your photos.  They will be returned to you, but I would suggest sending copies of hard photos.
The Process
When I've received your photos, I will email or call for a consultation on ideas for layout and coloration. I will complete a cropped version of the photo you provide with background ideas to determine the layout, I'll photograph it and email it to you.  When we reach a layout we like, I'll get painting and send you an update midway by email.  When it's complete, I'll send a final email for your approval, with revisions if necessary.  Once I receive the final payment, I will carefully pack and ship the portrait to you.
